“Mary’s Buttons” is based on a true story of the murder of a sheriff that took place in Maccomb County in 1910. At the time the local newspaper and community were quick to condemn the accused Belgin immigrant to life in prison before the trial even began, while a local deputy tries to protect the defendant from an angry mob while a two young newspaper reporters and a lawyer team up to fight for his safety and acquittal. This movie was filmed in Michigan and the court scenes were filmed in Lapeer’s Historic Courthouse. Local actors appear in the movie and may make a surprise appearance at the showing. These actors and Mr. Govaere will also be available for questions.
